In addition to the concert itself, it also comes with a documentary ( We Are the Others – A Decade of Delain), a live version of “We Are the Others” from Masters of Rock 2015 and the video for “Suckerpunch.” It’s clear that a lot of love was put into the making of this release, and it perfectly captures the essence of the band. The energy is infectious, even if you are simply watching it on a screen almost one year later. The video helps with this by cutting across to all members, in a variety of angles (yet not in a jarring way). Delain was joined on stage throughout the evening by Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Liv Kristine, Burton C. And of course, the interactions between the band members are what put Delain above many in the genre. Live at Paradiso was filmed at a sold out gig at Amsterdam’s legendary Paradiso on December 10, 2016. It aids in having the video feel like you are a part of it. The cuts frequently dip into viewing the sold out crowd getting into each track and engaging with the band, be it clapping/singing/jumping along. Delain are strong performers in the live setting, and Live at Paradiso is just about the best thing available other than actually going to see the band play. Gauging solely on the musical portion, it’s worth an investigation for long-time fans.īut the real treat is the video. The sound is fantastic, allowing some cuts to sound even better than their studio counterparts. The setlist itself does a nice job of pairing up live favorites (such as “We Are the Others,” “Army of Dolls,” “Sleepwalkers Dream,” and “Get the Devil Out of Me”), new cuts from their latest album, Moonbathers, and some rare treats (“Where is the Blood” and “Your Body is a Battleground”). Femme-Metal Friday: Exit Eden “A Question of Time”.DVD review: Delain-A Decade of Delain (Live at Par.Delain, along with George, lead the audience into clapping along with them (where I catch another glimpse of my friend Bill!), culminating into synchronized fist-pumping throughout the Paradiso. The nod to Delain’s debut continues with “Pristine”, where the searing vocals of George Oosthoek provide some guttural ferocity and the entire band headbangs in sync (along with some fans in the balcony as well!). The trip down memory lane continues with the song Charlotte deems as the “party favorite” among Delain fans: “The Gathering” (which feels a little flat without Marco, but makes up for it with fan enthusiasm, where everyone jumps up and down and cuts loose). Delain returns to old-school favorites with “Stay Forever”, and then is joined onstage by Liv Kristine for “See me in Shadow” (where things seem to calm down for the first time during this energetic show). From there, Charlotte announces that they have a “virtual guest”, and Nightwish bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala appears on-screen for the song “Your Body is a Battleground”.
